सीप Signs MoU with Nepal Yarn Manufacturers' Association

The MoU outlines the intention of the UKaid सीप and NYMA to partner for “Building Public Private Partnership for the Yarn Industry to Boost Skills for Employment Generation”

At a special event held on 19th September, 2019 during the first day of Nepal Yarn & Textile Expo 2019, UKaid Skills for Employment Programme (सीप) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nepal Yarn Manufacturers’ Association (NYMA) in the presence of Honorable Minister of Finance Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada and Rob Clark from DFID Nepal.

The MoU outlines the intention of the UKaid सीप and NYMA to partner for “Building Public Private Partnership for the Yarn Industry to Boost Skills for Employment Generation” and to support the Government of Nepal’s agenda to encourage apprentice-based training that enables gainful employment.

“At DFID Nepal, we are incredibly excited about the transformative power of the partnerships that’s being forged through UKaid सीप, including the one we intend to establish with the Nepal Yarn Manufacturer Association and its connected textile factories,” said Rob Clark, Private Sector Development Advisor of DFID Nepal.

Given the job growth potential of the Yarn to garment industry value chain, both UKaid सीप and NYMA are interested in building sustainable and impact-focused collaboration between the public and private organizations based on principles of shared interest and shared value—utilizing the strengths of each partner – to reach and empower more than 3,800 job seekers with quality, employment-linked apprenticeship training over the next one-year and spur growth of the factories.

UKaid सीप also had a booth at the Expo which was visited by various dignitaries, including Honorable Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security Mr. Gokarna Bista and industry stakeholders. At the second day of the Expo, UKaid सीप and NYMA also got an opportunity to brief Honorable Minister Bista on regarding the recently signed MoU between the two entities.

The UKaid-funded four-year सीप programme supports the generation of new employment and migration management by working with the government, employers in the private sector, training and education institutions, financial and remittance firms, and recruitment agencies to pilot and scale innovative initiatives in priority sectors: tourism, commercial agriculture, construction (hydropower), and light manufacturing. Drawing on national and international resources, सीप provides co-investment and technical advisory support to partner with the private and public sector – using a Challenge Fund mechanism – on efforts that introduce and expand sustainable training, employment, and migration management models.
